ASTM A53 Gr.B Carbon Seamless Steel Pipe

Carbon seamless steel pipes is a kind of circular Steel Pipe with hollow section. Compared with solid steel such as round steel bar, Hot rolled seamless steel pipes has the same bending and torsional strength and light weight. It is an economic section steel. It is widely used to manufacture structural parts and mechanical parts, such as oil drill pipe, automobile transmission shaft, bicycle frame and steel scaffold used in construction. Manufacturing ring parts with steel pipes can improve material utilization, simplify manufacturing processes, and save materials and processing hours, such as rolling bearing rings, Jack sleeves, etc. At present, steel pipes have been widely used for manufacturing.

Standard Specification for Pipe, Steel, Black and Hot-Dipped, Zinc-Coated, Welded and Seamless

ASTM A53 (ASME SA53) Carbon Steel Pipe is a specification that covers seamless and welded black and hot-dipped Galvanized Steel Pipe in NPS 1/8″ to NPS 26.  A 53 is intended for pressure and mechanical applications and is also acceptable for ordinary uses in steam, water, gas, and air lines.

A53 pipe comes in three types (F, E, S) and two grades (A, B).

A53 Type F is manufactured with a furnace butt weld or may have a continuous weld (Grade A only)

A53 Type E has an electric resistance weld (Grades A and B)

A53 Type S is a Seamless Pipe and found in Grades A and B)

A53 Grade B Seamless is our most polar product under this specification and A53 pipe is commonly dual certified to A106 B Seamless pipe.

Tensile requirements

Number of tests required

Seamless and Electric-Resistance-Welded — Bending, flattening, tensile on one length of pipe from each lot of 500 lengths or less of a size. Continuous-Weld — Bending, flattening, tensile

Hydrostatic testing

Hydrostatic inspection test pressures for plain end and threaded and coupled pipe are specified. Hydrostatic pressure shall be maintained for not less than 5 seconds for all sizes of seamless and electric-resistance-weld pipe.

Mechanical tests specified

Tensile Test — Transverse required on ERW for NPS 8 and large. Sending Test (Cold) — STD and XS-NPS 2 and under XXS-NPS 1 1/4 and under.
Flattening Test — NPS 2 and larger STD and XS. (Not required for XXS pipe.)

Standard Weight

Single Random — 16′ – 22′. 5% may be jointers. If Plain Ends — 5% may be 12′ – 16′.

Double Random — Shortest Length 22′, minimum average for order 35′.

Extra Strong and Double Extra Strong

Single Random — 12′ -22′. 5% may be 6′ – 12′.

Double Random (XS and lighter) — Shortest Length 22′, minimum average for order 35′.

Lengths longer than single random with wall thicknesses heavier than XS subject to negotiation.

Materials and Manufacture

The steel for both seamless and Welded Pipe shall be made by one or more of the following processes: open-hearth, electric furnace, or basic-oxygen. The weld seam of electric-resistance welded pipe in Grade B shall be heat treated after welding.
